another weekend
Posted in Geekiness, Phoenix on 10/10/2004 10:14 pm by katAnother weekend has sadly come and gone. This weekend was particularly needed after a busy week at work of trying to get a review put together. I have, unofficially (all too sadly, I’m sure this will eventually become official) the PowerPoint expert in my group. As a result, I got to butt heads all week with one of the systems people trying to convince them that just because they had always used a certain template didn’t mean that it was necessarily a good template. Oh yeah, and we had to actually get the review put together. Thankfully, Friday afternoon at about 3:30pm, I clicked the Save button hopefully for the last time and went home after definitely putting in over my 40 hours that week.
Friday night, Sean and I decided to go on a date. I know that we’re married, but because of the circumstances of our pre-marital relationship, we never went on “dates” much. So, we’re making up for it now. Friday consisted of driving down to Tempe after work, browsing the Borders bookstore for an hour or so whilst drinking caffeinated goodness in frozen (Sean) and hot (me) forms. After a quick walk to the theatre to go ahead and purchase our tickets, thus avoiding later longer lines, we settled into the Rio Salado Brewing Co. (aka Salty River Saloon) for happy hour drinks of their week’s tap specials. A couple beers a piece later and a small appetizer to hold us over until dinner, we meandered back to the theatre for a 6:40pm showing of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. It’s the only time I’ve gotten to see anime on the big screen. It most likely will continue to be the only time, so I didn’t want to pass it up. Movie was good. Very good philosophical points were brought up that left us pondering on our short walk to our favorite Irish pub. After a cider and a short talk with the chef on what was good for the day (note: If you get a chance, always get in good with the chef as he will never lead you wrong on his own menu), I had cider-roasted chicken with champs and sauteed green beans in front of me. Delicious does not even begin to describe it. A couple more beers and a bit of whiskey followed with excellent company (read: We stayed on the end of the bar with the locals and a couple rounds of whiskey were bought around like usual). For those who know me well, yes, I have begun to find whiskeys that I’m willing to drink. This only happened after much serious teasing and heckling from the locals forced me to at least attempt to like the liquor.
Saturday afternoon was spent running errands around Phoenix. Sodas were bought for my coworkers. We keep sodas downstairs in a fridge so that we don’t have to go upstairs just to get caffeinated goodness whilst at work. It all works out and we turn a small profit off of it. Saturday night, a coworker threw a house warming party. After Nebraska got trampled by Texas Tech (Nebraska and K State being where I swear 80% of GD employees come from, so that was what was on TV), much alcohol was consumed by distraught fans. Amusement followed. Sleep followed late that night.
Today was a day for sitting at home. I got some quilting done which was nice. One of these days, I’ll finish the quilt, although I doubt it will be anytime soon. My craft room is finally starting to look like a craft room… with the gratuitous laptop and printer set up for the geek in me. Sean played Kingdom Hearts this evening. I quietly read Cryptonomicon upstairs. Laundry got done. You know, the usual household duties that have to be completed approximately once a week.
Tomorrow, back to work for both of us. I have to find some way of carrying in 6 flats of sodas, a 36-pack of Mountain Dew, a pack of Frappucinos and chocolate candy. This is going to be amusing. Maybe I’ll go through the front entrance tomorrow…
