monsoon season
Posted in Phoenix on 07/14/2004 04:50 pm by katMonsoon season officially started yesterday in Phoenix. How do we know that it’s monsoon season? Easy. The general rule is 3 consecutive days of dew points at or above 55 degrees F.
Monday, another dust storm rolled through the valley. AZ Central has some great pictures of what the dust storm looks like as it rolls through the valley. It’s an incredibly awesome sight.
Last night, we had a nasty thunderstorm hit the valley. At first, Sean and I noticed some distant lightning along the ridge of the mountains. Sometime in the middle of the night, though, the storm came rolling in with a vengeance. It was so loud, I honestly couldn’t sleep through the thunderclaps. Thankfully, the storm also brought rain. Well, it was more like mud falling from the sky. There was a lot of dust in the air leftover from the previous evening’s dust storm and as the rain began falling, the water brought the dirt with it. My car is an absolute mess now. It looks like a green spotted leopard.
Clouds are starting to accumulate along the mountain ranges again. I have a feeling we’re in for another round of storms tonight. At least the storms wait for the evening when the heat recedes a bit. It means I can get errands run in the afternoon without getting wet.
Note: I fixed the link to the Haboob pictures. Now it’s actually a whole slide show of pictures, so you can see what it looks like to be in the middle of one.
