ADOT

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). At first, I thought these people might just have it figured out. I went in on Monday afternoon to get my new driver’s license. No problem. I got my ticket, started filling out forms, my number got called before I had even finished the forms. The guy who helped me couldn’t have been nicer. I even left with my driver’s license. Not a temporary piece of paper. The real thing. To top it off. It only cost me $25 and the thing will last me for 40 years.

Karma was out to get me. On Monday, I found out what I had to do to get my tags and registration taken care of for my car. Since my car is older than 2000, I had to go get emissions testing. I can deal with that. I figured that there are just a few offices that have got the emissions testing as well as everything else and I just have to go to one of those. Oh no. That’s too simple. I get to the emissions testing about 4:15pm. I got through the lines. They’re actually pretty efficient. I paid my $27 to have my car tested. When I go to leave, I asked them where the office is so that I can go ahead and get my registration and tag taken care of. “There isn’t an office here. The closest one is in Tempe.” I was in Mesa at this point in time, btw. Fine. That’s really stupid, but I’m willing to deal.

The ADOT booklet I had gotten said that the office was open until 5:30pm and it was only 4:35pm at this point in time. On my way over to the Tempe MVD office, I realize I don’t have any checks to use to pay them money for my registration and title. I knew about how much it was, so I figured I’d just stop at my bank, grab money, and then continue on my way to the office. I swear I picked the one stretch of road yesterday that had no Bank of America ATM on it. Grrr… I finally just settled for a Wells-Fargo, after driving around the block of where the MVD office was trying to find an ATM. I pull my money out and head to the office. I arrive at the office at 5:01pm. I go to the front desk and ask if I can get a number. “We stop giving out numbers at 4:30pm.” umm…. what?! I mentioned that the booklet I had said that they were open until 5:30pm. “Well, we’re not. ” No kidding. Thanks for being so terribly informative. It turns out that they’re open from 8am - 5pm, but they stop giving numbers at 4:30pm, so that they can actually go home at 5pm. Grrr… So, here I am. I have all of my paperwork filled out. I have my emissions papers and my fees in cash. I growl at the lady and leave.

I’m going to try again tomorrow. I can’t go today because I have to pick up my car at 4:30 from the brakes place we took it to this morning. My car decided it needed new pads, so it’s been squeaking at me lately. Thank god, my company is helping with this relocation, because otherwise, I’d be broke right now.
