basalt slate

The past couple of weeks have been busy with working on making sure everything is ready for us to move into the house on July 24. I’ve talked to the movers and they’re scheduled to show up early morning that Saturday with all of our stuff. How nice it’ll be to finally have everything accessible again. I’m starting to miss all of the odds and ends that are packed away, like our games. Before the movers can come, though, we have to close on the house. Before we have to close on the house, the house needs to be finished.

Friday afternoon, Sean went down to the design studio to pick out three things, carpet, vinyl and countertops. We had spent the night before at Home Depot, going over countertop samples, vinyl floor samples and carpet samples, trying to determine the best ones for the house, since I wasn’t going to be there on Friday. Sean picked out basalt slate formica countertops, Santa Fe carpet and San Tropez/Beige vinyl. I’ll let you decode those color names.

On top of the countertops, vinyl and carpet, we need to buy a fridge and a washer/dryer set. The stove, microwave and dishwasher come with the house. I’ll be the first one to admit that since moving into our last house, I’ve been drooling over better, geekier home appliances. I’ll also be the first one to admit that the day we just buy some appliances can’t come quickly enough. Sean and I have been hmm’ing and haw’ing over appliances for weeks now. Everytime we go into Fry’s, we wind up back in the appliances section, looking at fridges, washers and dryers. I think we finally have the washer/dryer set picked out. This one wasn’t too hard. We had eyed the LG washers back when Sean worked at Best Buy. We finally settled on the WM2032H for a washer and the DLE5932 for a dryer.

The fridge has been a whole different experience. We can’t get all of the features we want in a fridge, so we’ve been stuck trying to figure out which features we’re willing to sacrifice and which ones we’re not. We just stare at the fridges and go, “But, this one has the chef’s pantry.” “Yeah, but this one has the tilting bottom drawer.” Argh! Hopefully, today, we’ll be able to make a decision. Sean’s going to get finalized prices and I think that’s what it’s going to come down to. In the meantime, my eyes are just going to glaze over every time someone even starts to mention fridges.

So, still left on the To Buy List for the new house:
- Fridge
- Washer/Dryer
- 5 ceiling fans (3 bedrooms, computer room and living room)
- deep freezer
- misting system for back porch (These things are better than fans out here. It’s awesome!)
