notes after a week in phoenix
Posted in Phoenix on 06/07/2004 07:43 pm by katA few notes after spending my first official week as a resident of Phoenix, AZ.
1.Fry’s Electronics is so much better than Best Buy that I will never miss that wretched store.
2. Hard liquor can be bought at WalMart. This disturbs me greatly. What disturbs me even more, though, is that no matter where you are in the country, the same type of people still seem to go to WalMart. Can I not get away from the hicks?!
3. There are so many good restaurants in this town, I can’t even begin to list them. Since our kitchen is so tiny (nearly non-existent), we’ve been eating out a lot lately and I’ve yet to have a bad meal. Oh yeah, beer’s good here, too.
4. Drivers here are insane. Any time you take an amalgamation of people from all over the country, their driving practices are not going to mix well. Add to that the “Q-tip” community (aka, retired people), roads are not safe anywhere
around here.
5. A “dry heat” is definitely better than a “wet heat”. I swear. Sweating actually accomplishes something out here. And for any northerners that might read this, compare our summers to your winters. In the winter, you go from a heated house, to a heated car, to a heated store, etc. In the summer, we go from a cooled home, to a cooled car, to a cooled store, etc. And, at least we get a little time in the morning before it heats up.
That’s it for now. I’m sure I’ll come up with some more the more I live hear. The house is still coming along. They had stuccoed the walls this past weekend. Our garage door opener is in, but still no front door. Friday, Sean goes in to pick the countertop and flooring (I can’t make the appointment). I’m expecting magenta countertops and canary yellow carpet.
