zip and zap

For those of you who didn’t know me about 2.5 years ago, I had an Audi at the time. My poor Audi decided to shat its transmission all over I-65 while trying to drive Andy up from Birmingham, that oh so fateful visit of his. After my beloved Audi died, I had to find a car and fast. One does not survive in Huntsville very well without a motorized vehicle of some sort or another. Thus, my Saturn came into my life. It was a practical car for a practical cost and it served its purpose. The car got me from point A to point B with minimal effort. I had my issues with it, but I was willing to deal.

All the while, of course, I was dreaming of the day that I could get a fun car. A car that would get me from point A to point B, but I would enjoy the trip in between. Well, that day has finally come. Yesterday, I signed the papers on a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5. It’s mine. The payments are a little lower than my Saturn and I’m actually cutting back on my insurance a little bit (a whole $9.06). I drove it lovingly home where it fits into our garage with much room to spare. It zips, it zaps and it even zigs a little bit. I guess my trip to Atlanta this afternoon will give me a chance to get used to driving a rear-wheel drive car for the first time. It really is a blast to drive so far. I just grin when I get behind the wheel. Next up, my car must be given a name…
