tundra toes

Okay, I’ll admit it, I have really poor circulation. As a result, Sean’s given nicknames to my extremities… frosty fingers, tundra toes… It’s the worst in the middle of the winter when it’s cold. Normally, during the summer, I don’t have much to worry about with my fingers or toes getting cold.

I’ve been proven wrong this past week or so. For the past few days or so, hopefully some of you have observed the fact that I’m not online during the day (I’ve already explained why I’m not online at night). Or, if I’m online, I’m set as away on Trillian. Mainly, it’s because I’ve been sitting in the arctic area of our office, otherwise known as the Closed Area. It’s truly freezing in there. I have to spend the first few minutes once leaving that office just thawing out my toes and fingers. Upon entering, I always have my trusty sweater to wear. Today, I had to take it one step further. My toes literally were turning blue when I was in the room on Friday all day. So, today, I brought my slippers. I’ve been walking around the office all day in my slippers and sweater.

Before anyone mentions it, yes, I understand that rooms full of computers can’t be allowed to get too hot, especially with the equipment that we have in there. We do not, though, have to keep it at sub-arctic conditions. Excuse me while I go dip my fingers in steaming hot water to thaw them out.

Yes, it’s official, Sean and I have truly learned what it’s like to own a home. Or should I put it that the house owns us? We spent a good chunk of our Saturday afternoon at either Lowe’s or Home Depot shopping for various stuff for our house. When we weren’t at either of those locations, we were at home fixing various problems with the house or just outright trying to get everything moved in. We might finally be able to park a car in the garage tonight, thanks to putting some storage shelves up in the garage yesterday. We also got the waterbed put together Saturday so we now have our own bed and no longer sleep up in the guest bedroom. I have some slightly more efficient storage options for in the kitchen. We also went ahead and picked up some shelves for the kitchen so that we will have enough storage space for all of our appliances and other various kitchen accessories. Before the shelving can go up, though, we must first do some kitchen deconstruction and get rid of the pointless countertop in our kitchen. Sunday, the pink wallpaper in the upstairs bathroom offended me for the last time. Sean and I stripped most of it down. What we weren’t able to strip will be steamed off this week and then this weekend that bathroom will get painted. My ultimate goal is to get the upstairs finished so that when Sean’s parents come (it’s still kind of up in the air) at the end of the month, we’ll at least have nice quarters for them.

This weekend wasn’t all work and the horrid sucking sound of our wallets being emptied into the house, though. Friday night, I had Allis over for dinner. I had barely gotten to see her all summer since our schedules conflicted, thus I still had her birthday present from back in mid-June. After she left to go visit with Scott for a bit that evening, Sean and I ran our old fridge out to Geof’s as another part in the great kegerator project. When we got home, our next door neighbors had invited us over to their place for a drink and Sean and I decided to take them up on us. Dude, we so scored with the neighborhood. Several of our neighbors were actually over there, so we got to meet and actually talk with more of our neighbors, which was cool. We also got to see what Mark and Ellen’s house looked like. It was gorgeous on the inside. Rich colors, wood flooring, nice lighting. Exactly what Sean and I would eventually like to do with our house. They had even completely redone the backyard area. It was fenced in and they had taken out the concrete slab and replaced it with brickwork. We wound up staying over there, chatting and getting thoroughly toasted until about 1am. We then meandered our way next door and promptly crashed that night.

Overall, the weekend was much better than last weekend (not nearly as much strenuous activity). At least we like the house that’s sucking all of our money away from us.
