Gareth, the evil little monster that he is, showed me this link this morning. I had purposefully avoided looking at this book, because I knew the second I did, I’d be tempted to order it. Damn him. Damn him to hell. I now have I’m Just Here for the Food: Food + Heat = Cooking by Alton Brown as well as Cookwise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Cooking by Shirley Corriher. Great evilness in the kitchen will no doubt be the result of this little purchase.

There’s nothing like curling up with a hot mug of tea early in the morning and quietly surfing the web. It’s the few guaranteed minutes of downtime I get every morning before heading into work. I curl up in front of my computer with mug in one hand, mouse in the other and Kudzu quietly purring in my lap. Even now, the space between me and my keyboard is occupied by a purring ball of fur. This is my ritual every morning now. It’s a time of being able to calmly wake myself up and prepare myself for a day of unknowns. The rest of the world just doesn’t matter for those 25 minutes.
In a lot of ways, it’s a form of meditation for me. For me, meditation isn’t sitting in an uncomfortable position and “become one with the universe.” Instead, meditation is sitting anywhere where I can feel peaceful and just clear my head of the swirling chaos of thoughts in it. It’s kind of like a mental recharge. I clear my head of everything in it and I just calmly sit somewhere. There are sometimes when I do this quietly with soft music playing in the background and only candles lit in the room. Most days, though, it only requires a quiet morning before Sean wakes up for me to just curl up with my cat and enjoy a peaceful time to surf the web. This is what life’s all about. These precious, peaceful moments in our lives.
