a beautiful mind - a simple review

Don’t worry, there aren’t any spoilers. You can keep reading even if you haven’t seen the movie.

Sean and I curled up to watch A Beautiful Mind tonight. I, unfortunately, never got a chance to see it in the theatres and have been wanting to see it since it came out. It lived up to every possible expectation I could possibly have had for the movie. Russell Crowe did a wonderful job portraying John Nash. Nash’s accomplishments have rather fascinated me for many years. I discovered his existence in high school when taking economics. I don’t even remember how, but I read up on some of his work. It went so far over my head, I think it smacked around a few airplanes cruising overhead. The man is brilliant.

Anyway, back to the movie. The acting was outstanding. The score was brilliant. The direction was also quite excellent (what else would you expect from Ron Howard?) Overall, I can fully understand why the picture was nominated and won for so many categories. I would definitely recommend going and seeing this movie.

swimming with the fishies

Growing up, thanks to this man and his project I wanted to be a marine biologist. That was the whole reason I went to ASMS, so that I could take marine biology courses. Of course, that’s also where I wound up being snagged by the Physics department and now I’m apparently a poster child for the ASMS Physics department. I’m told that the teachers still mention me. It’s scary. Anyway, I just thought that the article was cool and I got a chance to see what JASON’s latest project is.
