new and improved!

Geof helped me get my new site design up. I’m really pretty happy with it. I also feel more comfortable with playing around with greymatter as well as css. Over the next couple of days, I’ll be finishing up the various tweeks that we left to be done later.

I still need to finish off the links at the top of the page and put something in most of them. The recipes and health links will be taken care of as soon as I post to them, since they’re happily set up now. The ‘recent quotes’ sidebar section needs to be taken care. Again, I’ll worry about that once I have a goodly amount of my quotes stored in there (and I have a pretty large collection of random quotes). I’ll, of course be tweaking fonts and suck on the page. I also need to put a slightly wider graphic at the top, so that Portablekat.net is fully spelled out in the background.

Then, it’s just a matter of manually putting together the top five stuff and finding a decen (I’m not expecting great) counter to use for my countdown to graduation. Normally, I would balk at the idea of putting something non-aesthetically pleasing on my site, but graduation is such an important milestone to me that I’m willing to sacrifice a few aesthetics to revel in the fact that graduation is finally less than a year away for me.

Some of the new things added to my site… Well, the sidebar is completely new; so is the recipes and health sections. Those two are something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but have put off until the redesign. I’ve also added commenting to my site. We’ll see how that goes. If no one comments, then I’ll likely take it off, but we’ll see how things go for now. I’m also going back and enabling commenting on all of my older entries, in case anyone’s interested. We’ll see how this goes.

Oh, and Geof, you did a great job with the site! Thank you. I’m very, very happy with it. :)

  1. You owe me a beer.

  2. It looks pretty nice. :)

  3. Yeah, yeah, I’ll buy you a beer next time we go out.

  4. I think this script:

will do the countdown you want…

  5. Yep, that’s pretty much what I want. I’ll toss it up this evening and see how it looks on the site. Thanks for finding it, Ames.

  6. Looks like you just went ahead and did it.

If I knew my M.A. graduation date, I’d go ahead and do it. Hell, I can probably make a good guess, might as well. :)

  7. I added mine … this appears to just count weekdays, though. I put May 9, 2005 in, and it gave me 773 … which is less than *two* years, and that date’s three years out. :)

  8. I think you’re right. Mine’s way off, considering mine should be closer to 350 days away. I’ll keep that up until I find a better one.

  9. Oooooh :) I like the new layout Kat.

  10. It’s weekdays, Kat. I noticed that it didn’t count down over the weekend … :)
