What do we want to do boys? Kill Kill Kill
Posted in General on 04/03/2002 08:47 am by SeanThank you Geof for inspiring me to the title above. Well for those of you who have not talked to me in person in awhile you should know that I have now qwuit my job at CompUSA (no link here, why should? :-P) and weill now start on my schedule of hockey skating. Last night I went down to the Ice Plex where both of Geof’s roomies work, Todd and Blake. Of course, it is the only place in town to go skating, so that narrows things down a bit. I am starting out with a intro to skating for adults class. This is good, and I like the format, they are dividing the hockey players from those figure skating people. The hour goes by really quickly just so you know…..
Lessons learned:
1) I can go fast, it is stopping that is the problem.
2) Having a background in inline speed skating really helps, just not for the stopping part.
3) When trying to stop, do not grab the wall, you can twist your shoulder.
4) Wear more than a t-shirt to lessons.
5) Hockey stops are really hard to learn.
6) You have to take much quicker steps when playing hockey
7) taking quicker steps makes you go faster, but also makes it harder to stop.
Do you think I have an area to work on? Oh, I also am a bit pissed. Kat and friends (you know who you are) collected money for skates for my birthday. We ordered some CCM 652s, I got them and took them into the shop to get sharpened. Well it turns out that the boot is about a 7 year old design, with a new blade holder on the bottom. So basically we are going to be contacting the company that sold us the skates and will be returning them soon. I hate it when people try to rip you off……
It still looks like this will be fun, and maybe next time i can get Geof to come out with me.

Actually, Blake doesn’t work at the Iceplex. Anthony does, though.
Oh, forgot to post in the midst of all the fun of trying to get my googlebombing groove on … I checked my skates last night. I ordered 10 EE’s, and they gave me 10 D’s. I looked at the order sheet–the EE was marked out in red pen, and a D put in its place.
Hockey Giant is getting a nasty email from me today!

As an update: I called hockey giant, it seems on the web that they two different types of CCM 652s. I got the origionals, they were "reissued" from CCM. Not their fault i guess. well anyway I ordered the ones that I wanted for 10 bucks less, got another 20 off the order since i signed up to recieve their newsletter, got them shaprened for 7 bucks at thier location, and they are not charging a restocking fee because i am basically exchanging them. Oh, and i get a free pair of gloves with the order. At this point I am happy with them and they will receive my business again.

Grrrr. I haven’t heard back from Hockey Giant yet. I should call, but I’m lazy and tied up with class stuff.
