Time to drive…

This is Amy, your trusty webgeek, speaking.

Here’s hoping that this page is being generated correctly.

This is, after all, just a test. If this were an actual emergency, you would get in a really fast car and drive really far away at abominably high rates of speed….

Spicy noodles, burnt skin and the sea

Yesterday, Sean and I made our trek back up the state from Florida. We spent the weekend down in PC Beach with his sister, who’s attending a summer Christian retreat down there. It was a Family Weekend at the retreat and since their parents were in Hawaii, Amy invited us to come visit.

It was a nice weekend. The drive down consisted of rain, thunderstorms and beautiful rainbows, but Saturday morning we woke up to beautiful blue skies and a breeze that was unbelievably cool and refreshing. Sean had to take Amy into work first thing for a few hours, but that gave us some time to cruise around and complete the major mission that Sean had in mind when coming to the beach: we had to find a kite shop that would fix his larger stunt kite. There were two that he’d found on the web. One was in Panama City and the other was in Seaside. We had decided to go to Seaside with Amy after she got off of work, so we went hunting for the one that was in town first. We tried to find it using the Yahoo! map he’d printed out, but started to have problems, so with a $4 map in hand, we went hunting for the neighborhood this store was supposedly in. I swear to you, it was like Atlantis: The Lost Neighborhood. We couldn’t find any of the streets that supposedly led into this neighborhood. It was so weird. So, after giving up the hunt, we picked Amy up and headed to Seaside.

Let me just go ahead and say this. As much as I think Seaside is an absolutely gorgeous community and I love going there, it creeps me out how homogenous everything is. All the buildings are painted with the same colors and have similar architecture and they’re all in nice, neat order. I can understand why they filmed “The Truman Show” there. Of course we found the kite shop there quite easily. Amy and I even got a chance to poke through the shops along the beach while Sean was busy talking to the kite lady about his kite. They had these flip-flops that were in the shape of fish. It was weird, but cute. After shopping for a while, we made our way to the beach and spent the rest of the afternoon flying kites, body surfing and sunning ourselves.

Overall, it was a peaceful relaxed weekend. Sunday we went to church and went back to the beach before cleaning up the house and finally leaving. That was when we stopped at the Spicy Noodle. It had a big onion or garlic head smiling for it’s logo. It was interesting enough that Sean and I had to try it. It was awesome food. We got the Three Cheese and Garlic pizza. Now, how many places could you get that for pizza? They even served roasted garlic as an appetizer, which we opted out of, since we were getting the garlic on pizza already. It was excellent pizza.

The drive home was relatively uneventful. Sean and I finally arrived back home late last night and proceeded to crash after a long, but good weekend away from home. Now, if I could just get the sunburn on my back to quit itching so much…
