On the road again…

So, I haven’t been taking too many road trips lately. One of the main reasons is because my boyfriend lives in town now. When he lived in Atlanta, I was usually taking a trip over there once every couple of weeks or so. But, he’s in town now and I have more than enough stuff to keep me occupied here in town. Yesterday, though, I had a good reason to head back onto the road again. Dido was playing in Atlanta and I have wanted to see Dido live for a little while. So, Sean and I hit the road Wednesday and headed to Atlanta.

Sean’s first car was a cute little green Fiat that was also his father’s pet car. It hasn’t run for several years now, but recently the engine got worked on and it lives once more. So, of course, when we got to Atlanta, Sean wanted to take it out for a run while we were there. After he got out of a meeting with a client, we went for a ride in it. What a great car! I mean, we’re not talking about a complex car. It has two seats, a battery, an engine and a shell and that was about it. Literally. But, it has a lot of character (both good and bad). And, it turned out to be a fun ride. While we were out riding around, we also had two destinations. For all of you Good Eats fans out there, we went to the Kroger that Alton Brown does his shopping at. It was a really HUGE store. I was properly impressed. Also, while we were in the area, there was an alcohol store that Sean wanted me to go to. It’s called The Beverage Warehouse. Sorry Andy, but this event rivals even your store up in Maryland. Being the cider fans that Sean and I are found a few new ones to try. Well, we’ve had Aces before, but we’ve now found a place to buy quantities of it. Aces is a pear cider that is absolutely awesome. The other thing that we found was something called Woody’s Ice. There’s several different flavors of this malt beverage. The one we decided to try was the blueberry flavor. Quite tasty. I suggest it to anyone interested. It apparently comes from England. Yummy.

Unfortunately, because of our drooling at The Beverage Warehouse, we were a little late meeting up with Brandy and Liz. Brandy is one of Sean’s good friends and Liz is Sean’s ex-girlfriend. Since they were also planning on going to the concert, we all decided to meet up for dinner beforehand. We met at a place called Doc Chey’s Noodle House. Tasty. It was an Asian fusion restaurant that concentrated on serving noodle and rice bowls of food. It turned out to be a very good restaurant. Food was good and conversation and company was also quite excellent. I enjoyed meeting Liz and Brandy. They were sincerely nice and apparently I have been approved of for being Sean’s girlfriend. And to think, I was so worried.

We finally headed to the concert at Lakewood. Travis opened for them. Another English group. They were good, but nothing that really got my attention. Instead, the group of us walked around for a little while and talked more. I discovered two more females who were tuned into their “gaydars.” For you less knowledgable, gaydars are a females way of knowing if a guy is gay or not. It’s not because we don’t want to know them. I have several good friends that are gay. But, this enables us to not accidentally become attached to a guy who isn’t tended towards our sex. That, of course, became an amusing discussion, even leading to us joking about how Sean, although partially tuned to his feminine side, is most definitely not gay.

Dido finally appeared on stage and we got treated to a spectacular performance. The lighting, although simplistic, was absolutely excellent. On each side of the stage, they had three “arms” that were actually rigging with lights attached to it. But, these arms actually moved up and down, causing a really interesting lighting effect. The music was also quite good. She performed alot of songs from her old album No Angel but she also performed several newer songs, which I’m hoping will be on her new album that is rumored to appear late this summer. I’m crossing my fingers.

The concert finally ended, and our day winded to an end. It was really a wonderful day. I’m quite happy that I got to meet Liz and Brandy and I was most definitely happy that I’d gone to the concert. I would glady see Dido in concert again. Today, we slept in, as we weren’t in a huge hurry to get back home. We finally made our way back home, though, making our traditional stop at Pappy Red’s, the world’s best barbecue. We made it home and I am now ready to collapse and sleep. It’s been a long couple of days and in less than 18 hours, we’ll be hitting the road again, on our way to Panama City Beach.

So, although I haven’t been roadtripping lately, I’m making up for it now, apparently.
